Electric Vehicles (EV) Destination KAPITI

Destination Electric Vehicles (EV) chargers located in areas of Kāpiti where we want people from outside the district to visit – eg Kāpiti island departure point, Paraparaumu & Waikanae beach cafes, Paekakariki, Otaki beach, Otaki SH1 shops etc. This would promote Kāpiti as a destination for a day trip where parking and charging is taking care of (provided the local businesses are supported).

It would also help promote local businesses, e.g promote the local craft beer scene with charger at these locations.

The idea is that we have medium charges in car parks located near specific areas we want to promote that provide free power either as standard or as reward for spending at local businesses – the incentive is to drive out to Kāpiti from outside the district. This can be promoted with a focus on the ability to come out for a day-trip and not worry about the cost of powering your EV, and get to experience all that Kāpiti has to offer.

There is also the opportunity to partner with Wellington based EV ride sharing business (e,g MEVO) to promote the use of EVs by suggesting that Wellington based residents could use an EV for the day to drive up and not have to worry about charging.

Kāpiti would be seen as supporting sustainable initiatives, and as a cost effective day trip for Wellingtonians and people from other nearby regions.
